The Afghanistan cricket team is to host three ODIs against South Africa from September 18, for which the 17-member team was announced by the Afghan Cricket Board on September 12. For this series, Afghanistan's team has seen the return of their star leg-spinner Rashid Khan, who will be seen playing in this format after the ODI World Cup in 2023. At the same time, opening batsman Ibrahim Zadran and spinner Mujeeb ur Rahman are not part of the team in the series against South Africa, who have not been selected due to injury.

For the ODI series against South Africa, Abdul Malik has been included in the Afghanistan team as a cover player in place of Ibrahim Zadran, who has shown a very good performance in List A cricket in the recent past. Darwish Rasooli, who has played 7 T20 International matches so far, has also been selected for the team for this ODI series due to his excellent performance in domestic cricket. Announcing the team, Afghanistan Cricket Board CEO Naseeb Khan said that hosting the South African team for the first time is a big achievement for Afghanistan cricket.
