8th Pay Commission Update: The central government has not yet announced the 8th Pay Commission to revise the salaries of its employees. However, employee unions believe that the panel will recommend linking the basic salary revision with the increase in dearness allowance. A senior official of the Central Government Employees Federation said that the previous 7th Pay Commission had proposed that when the dearness allowance becomes 50 percent, the basic salary should automatically increase. According to NDTV Profit, the employee union leader said that we made that proposal but the government did not accept it. However, we hope that the 8th Pay Commission will also recommend the same. On the other hand, central employees are waiting for the DA hike to be done by the government before Diwali.
This is the demand of the employees.
A senior official of the Employees Federation said that this proposal was made under the 7th Pay Commission but the government did not accept it. He said that we hope that the same recommendation will be made under the 8th Pay Commission. Shiv Gopal Mishra, head of the All India Railway Employees Federation, hoped that the 8th Pay Commission would recommend that the basic salary be increased when the DA is more than 50 percent. He said that the 7th Pay Commission had proposed this. Later the Center did not approve it. We will also raise this demand before the 8th Pay Commission.
DA increased to 50% from March.
It is worth noting that the DA given by the Central Government to its employees was last increased by 4% in March 2024. At that time the increase in DA increased from 46% to 50% of the basic salary. According to the report of the 7th Pay Commission, many allowances including HRA are automatically revised when it reaches 50% of the basic salary. The Central Government Employees Federation also confirmed that these allowances including HRA were increased earlier this year.
This issue was raised before the government.
However, there has been no hike in the basic pay as such a recommendation was not part of the 7th Pay Commission report. Mishra, an official forum for resolving disputes between the government and employees, said they have raised the matter with the government that the DA has already exceeded 50% of the basic pay.
The pay commission is constituted every 10 years.
The Employees Forum has submitted a memorandum to Union Cabinet Secretary TV Somanathan requesting to expedite the formation of the 8th Pay Commission. Usually, the Central Government constitutes a Pay Commission once every 10 years to revise the salaries of employees. The 7th Pay Commission was constituted in February 2014 by the then-Manmohan Singh-led government. Its recommendations were implemented in January 2016.
