AUS vs PAK: After being handed the captaincy of Australia for the third ODI against Pakistan and subsequent T20Is, wicketkeeper-batsman Josh Inglis said that it is a real privilege and honor to be given the responsibility of leadership. Inglis will become Australia's 30th ODI captain when the team plays against Pakistan in Perth while regular skipper Pat Cummins leaves to prepare for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. With Mitchell Marsh on paternity leave, he will also become the 14th player to captain Australia in the T20Is when they play against Pakistan in Brisbane, Sydney and Hobart from November 14-18.

“It’s exciting, I’m really looking forward to it. I’m obviously filling in for Mitch and Pat who are away – Mitch is on paternity leave and Pat is preparing for the Test summer. I’m looking forward to the challenge and it’s going to be really great to do it in Perth.”

Inglis told SEN Radio, “George Bailey called me last week and I was a bit shocked initially, but obviously, we have a lot of players who are preparing for different things. But to get that call and get the nod is really great. I'm really proud and honored to be in this position."

Inglis previously captained the Prime Minister's XI in a drawn match against the West Indies in 2022 and now hopes to bring an innovative and aggressive approach along with his leadership skills to Australia in the international arena. "I enjoy it when everything goes well, but it's not so much fun when it doesn't. But I think as a wicketkeeper, you're in a really good position to watch the game and see how it unfolds."

He concluded, "I'm always thinking tactically about how we can make changes, take wickets and things like that. I guess I don't like to see the game go astray like that, I want to be very innovative and take the game forward. We'll see how the game goes on Sunday, but I'm looking forward to it."
