Jammu and Kashmir Police on Saturday claimed to have solved several cases of hand grenade attacks in Poonch by arresting two terrorists of the Jammu and Kashmir Ghaznavi Force (JKGF) from the district. Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) of Jammu Division Anand Jain said that the arrest of Abdul Aziz and Manwar Hussain from Hari village is a big achievement for the security agencies.

The ADGP told reporters in Poonch that on Friday, police along with 37 Rashtriya Rifles and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) conducted a joint operation and arrested Aziz. Two hand grenades were recovered from him. He said that during the investigation, another hand grenade was recovered from his house. His accomplice Hussain was also arrested with a pistol, a magazine, and nine cartridges. Jain said - "Both were part of a larger conspiracy and wanted to create an atmosphere of fear and spoil the harmony in Poonch district by attacking various places including temple, gurudwara, army camp, and hospital with hand grenades.

Terrorist links across the border

He said both the arrested terrorists had links across the border and all the five grenade attacks in the district since November last year have been solved now. Police said during interrogation the terrorists said that their handlers sitting across the border had provided them with four consignments of arms and ammunition and given them Rs 1.50 lakh in cash. The terrorists revealed that they were trained to shoot pistols and they also practiced aiming by firing a few bullets in the forest.

According to the police, Aziz was involved in grenade attacks on Shiv Mandir in Surankote on November 15 last year, Gurdwara Mahant Sahib in Poonch district on March 26 this year, on Army sentry post at Kamsar in Poonch district in June and on school ground near CRPF sentry post on August 14. Police said Hussain had carried out grenade attacks near the houses of district hospital personnel on July 18. Police said the two terrorists had also pasted anti-national posters at various places in Surankote including Hari, Dhundak, Sanai, Idgah-Hari, and other nearby areas. He said these posters were printed at Hussain's house and pasted in August last year on the instructions of their handlers to instill fear among people. Police said another member of the module, Mohammad Shabbir, a resident of Dariyala, was arrested with a huge quantity of explosives on September 12. According to police, Aziz had provided him with explosives.
