Lucknow: Indian domestic cricket's run machine Sarfaraz Khan had promised to score a double century in the Irani Cup match against the Rest of India after his younger brother Mushir Khan was ruled out due to a road accident. Sarfaraz scored an unbeaten 222 in the match as Mumbai made 537 runs in the first innings.
I had promised my family that I would score a double century.
Mushir, who was in great form, was coming to Lucknow by car with his father Naushad Khan to participate in this match but his car met with an accident. Sarfaraz said here after the third day's play, 'Yes, it has been an emotional week for me. I had promised my family and teammates that if I was able to spend some time at the crease, I would score 200. In this, one is for me and one is for my brother.'
If Musheer had played too, Abbu would have been very proud.
The 26-year-old player said, 'If he (Musheer) was a part of this match, my father would have been very proud. Unfortunately, he had to face an accident. So I thought that I would try to score a double century in this match.' Sarfaraz said that he has talked to his brother who is seven years younger than him. Sarfaraz is a part of the Indian team while Mushir is also knocking on the door for it.
Musheer will take two to three months to recover completely
Sarfaraz, who scored a half-century against England in the Dharamsala Test in March, said, "Yes, I spoke to him. He is fine but it will take two to three months to recover completely." Sarfaraz is the first player to score a double century in the Irani Cup for Mumbai.
