New Delhi: Union Minister Anurag Thakur launched a sharp attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in the Lok Sabha, ridiculing the party’s repeated failures in Delhi Assembly elections. During his speech, Thakur repeatedly took jabs at Congress' performance, stating, "Rahul Ji, zero check kar lijiye..." as he pointed out the party’s failure to secure a single seat for the third consecutive time.

Congress' Electoral Woes in Delhi

In a heated exchange, Thakur mocked Congress' track record, listing its defeats in multiple elections.

"Rahul, please check the zero... there is one more zero," he said. Addressing the Speaker, Thakur added,
“How many seats did the people of Delhi give to Congress in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections? Zero. In 2015? Zero. In 2019? Zero. In 2020? Zero. In 2024? Zero. And in 2025? Zero.”

Dig at Supriya Shrinate Over Tax Exemption

Taking an indirect jibe at Congress MP Supriya Shrinate, Thakur responded to criticism of the Union Budget’s tax exemption for middle-class citizens.

"If you think that giving a 0% tax rate up to ₹12 lakh income is painful and you're unhappy, then more than your happiness, we see the happiness on the faces of millions of middle-class people. This is a major contribution to the country’s development."

Budget 2024: Major Tax Relief for the Middle Class

Thakur’s remarks came after the presentation of the Union Budget on February 1, where Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman introduced a major tax relief – zero tax up to ₹12 lakh income. This move was widely seen as a boost for the middle class, offering significant financial relief.

Delhi Election Results 2025: BJP's Historic Victory

The remarks followed the results of the 2025 Delhi Assembly Elections, where the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured a landslide victory, winning 48 seats. The BJP has returned to power in the national capital after 27 years.

Meanwhile, Congress failed to open its account for the third consecutive term, securing zero seats yet again. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) won 22 seats, suffering a significant setback compared to its previous performances.
