A fresh political controversy erupted in Delhi after AAP leader Atishi accused the BJP-led government of removing the portraits of Dr. BR Ambedkar and Shaheed Bhagat Singh from the Delhi Chief Minister’s office. Labeling it a reflection of BJP’s “anti-Dalit mentality,” Atishi alleged that the party deliberately took down the photos that were installed by AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal during his tenure.

Atishi Slams BJP Over Alleged Removal of Portraits

Atishi, who previously served as Delhi’s CM in Kejriwal’s absence, visited Rekha Gupta’s office and claimed that the portraits of Ambedkar and Bhagat Singh had been removed. Sharing her concerns on social media, she called it a direct attack on Dalit and Sikh identities.

“The anti-Dalit mentality of the BJP is well known. Today, a proof of its anti-Dalit mentality has been presented. Arvind Kejriwal had put up photos of Baba Saheb Ambedkar and Shaheed Bhagat Singh in every office of the Delhi government... the BJP has removed both these photos from the Chief Minister's office. This shows that the BJP is an anti-Dalit, anti-Sikh party.”

She further challenged the BJP, asking:

“Does the BJP think PM Narendra Modi is greater than Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar and Bhagat Singh?”

Following the allegations, Atishi staged a protest outside the Delhi Assembly, demanding an explanation from the BJP government.

BJP Counters, Shares Proof of Portraits Still in Office

The BJP was quick to dismiss the allegations, calling them “false propaganda.” The party’s IT cell chief, Amit Malviya, posted a photograph of the CM’s office, showing that the portraits of Ambedkar and Bhagat Singh were still hanging on the walls.

Malviya took to X (formerly Twitter) and hit back at AAP, saying:

“This is the room of the Chief Minister of Delhi, where the pictures of all the great men are still hanging. Liquor scam accused Arvind Kejriwal cannot go to the Chief Minister's office, so he is resorting to cheap politics of spreading confusion.”

He further accused Kejriwal of playing politics after AAP’s defeat in the recent elections.

“The public humiliated him so much that he was not even able to show his face after the defeat, but still, he is not desisting from his cheap actions.”

Political Storm Intensifies

With AAP and BJP locking horns once again, the controversy over the portraits has turned into a full-blown political showdown. While AAP continues to accuse the BJP of disrespecting national icons, the BJP insists that AAP is misleading the public to divert attention from ongoing corruption allegations.

As the political drama unfolds, Delhi’s citizens are watching closely, waiting for further developments in this high-voltage political clash.
