Bank holidays : All public and private banks in India, including the State Bank of India (SBI), will remain closed on September 18 on the occasion of Eid-e-Milad. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and the Maharashtra government have extended the Eid-e-Milad public holiday till September 18.

The holiday was earlier scheduled for September 16, but the date was changed after Muslim community leaders met and decided to avoid a clash with Anant Chaturdashi or Ganesh Visarjan festival during the week. September 2024 will see a long weekend starting with Saturday and Sunday on the 14th and 15th. This is followed by Eid-e-Milad, a public holiday, on September 16. Also, Anant Chaturdashi is observed on September 17, raising the question of whether banks will remain operational.

Apart from this, banks in Sikkim will also remain closed on September 17 on account of the Indra Jatra holiday. And banks in Kerala will remain closed on September 18 on the occasion of Sree Narayana Guru Jayanti.

Since bank holidays vary from state to state, and not all holidays are observed all over India, please check your local bank branch or app notifications for confirmation of holidays.

Apart from these, there is also a long weekend in some states next week, with holidays on September 21 (Sree Narayana Guru Samadhi - Kerala), September 22 (Sunday - All India) and September 23 (Veer Shaheed Diwas - Haryana).

Overall, all banks (public and private) in India will be closed for at least 14 days in September 2024, including weekend holidays for the second and fourth Saturdays and Sundays, religious and regional festivals. So it is advisable to plan your bank visits accordingly.
