Prashant Kishore begins hunger strike : Jan Suraj founder Prashant Kishore on Thursday began a hunger strike under the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at Gandhi Maidan in Patna, demanding the cancellation of the recently held Bihar Public Service Examination. Kishore made this announcement at Gandhi Maidan in Patna. Gandhi Maidan is a few kilometers away from the place where several aggrieved candidates have been protesting round the clock for nearly two weeks.
Demand to cancel the exam and conduct a fresh exam
Kishore told reporters that their demands include cancellation of the exam and holding of a fresh one. "I also demand action against corrupt officials who have allegedly put up positions meant to be filled through the exams for bribery," he said.
Notably, soon after a delegation of protestors met Chief Secretary Amrit Lal Meena, Kishor had on Monday said he would wait for '48 hours' and the agitation would intensify if the Nitish Kumar government failed to take any action on the combined competitive exams to be held on December 13.
PK said- If injustice is done to the students, we will stand up
Prashant Kishore has taken this decision after growing unrest among the candidates protesting against the alleged irregularities in the 70th BPSC preliminary examination held on December 13. Earlier, Kishore had given a 48-hour ultimatum to the Bihar government, urging it to pay attention to the demands of the students who are demanding cancellation of the examination and conducting it afresh. Speaking to the media, Jan Suraj chief Prashant Kishore said, "If injustice is done to the students, we will stand with them with full force."
In the joint competitive examination held on December 13, a rumor spread that the question paper was leaked at the Bapu Bhawan examination center in the state capital Patna, after which hundreds of candidates boycotted the examination to register their protest. After this, BPSC ordered to conduct the examination again in the Bapu examination complex. On the other hand, the students sat on a dharna in Patna's Gardanibagh demanding the cancellation of the entire examination.
Jan Suraj founder Prashant Kishor had organized a student parliament at Gandhi Maidan in Patna on Sunday. The administration did not give him permission for this. After this, the students started marching towards the Chief Minister's residence. Police used force to remove the protesting students. Police used lathi charge and water cannon. Police have registered a case against 700 persons including Kishor after the protest at Gandhi Maidan in Patna on Sunday.
