Champions Trophy 2025: The Afghanistan Cricket Board has extended the contract of its national team's head coach Jonathan Trott for one year and thus he will continue in this role in 2025 as well. This announcement has been made a few months before next year's Champions Trophy. Afghanistan will participate in this tournament for the first time.
Trott, a 43-year-old former England batsman, took over as the head coach of Afghanistan in July 2022. Under his guidance, the team has made impressive progress in international cricket. The Afghanistan Cricket Board said in a statement, "The Afghanistan Cricket Board wishes Trott all the best for his tenure with the Afghanistan team next year. He is striving to take Afghanistan cricket forward on the global stage.''
Jonathan Trott's impressive record
Since Trott's appointment, Afghanistan has played 34 ODIs, winning 14 of them. During this period, Afghanistan has won 20 of the 44 T20 international matches it played. Afghanistan's team is currently touring Zimbabwe where it will play three T20s, three ODIs, and a Test match. Trott will be able to provide his services only for the ODI series. He will not be available for the T20 and Test series due to personal commitments. The statement said that in Trott's absence, Hamid Hassan will play the role of head coach and Nawroz Mangal will play the role of assistant head coach.
