According to the Hindu calendar, the festival of Chhath Puja starts on the Chaturthi Tithi of Shukla Paksha of Kartik month. This fast is concluded by offering Arghya to the Sun in the morning. This year the Shashthi Tithi of Kartik Shukla Paksha will start on November 7 at 12:41 pm and will end on November 8 at 12:34 pm. In such a situation, this year Chhath Puja will be celebrated in Bihar on 7 and 8 November 2024. Nahai Khay will be done on November 5 and Kharna on November 6, 2024.

Significance of bathing, eating, Kharna and Chhath Puja

Nahai- Khaai- Nahai- Khaai is the first day of Chhath Puja. On this day, fasting women wash their hair and take a bath, and eat satvik food in the evening. This festival is celebrated on the Chaturthi Tithi of Shukla Paksha of Kartik month.

Kharna- Kharna is celebrated on the fifth day of Shukla Paksha of Kartik month. On this day, fasting women prepare jaggery kheer and roti after bathing in the evening. After preparing kheer, kheer, and roti are offered to Chhathi Maiya and Sun God. After the Kharna puja, fasting women eat the same food and distribute prasad.

Sandhya Arghya- On the third day of Chhath Puja, Arghya is offered to the Sun God in the evening. On this day, women observe a waterless fast for the whole day and prepare Chhath Prasad and decorate it in a bamboo basket. After the sun rises, Arghya is offered to the Sun God.

Usha Arghya- On the fourth day of Chhath Puja, it is offered to the Sun God in the morning after sunrise. This is known as Usha Arghya. The fast is completed after Usha Arghya. After this, this fast is broken.
