Manmohan Singh was born on 26 September 1932 in a village named Gah in the Punjab province of undivided India. Dr. Singh completed his matriculation from Punjab University in 1948. After that he received his further education from Cambridge University in Britain. In 1957, he earned a first class honours degree in economics. After this, in 1962, he did his D.Phil in economics from Nuffield College, Oxford University. He criticized the export-based trade policy in India in his book 'Export and Self-Reliance and Development Prospects in India'.
