Efforts to eliminate nuclear weapons have been honored by the Nobel Committee before. The Nobel Peace Prize was awarded in 2017 to the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons and in 1995 to Joseph Rotblat and the Pugwash Conferences on Science and World Affairs for their efforts to 'reduce the role of nuclear weapons in international politics and to eliminate such weapons in the long term'.
