Jalshakti Minister CR Patil announced the list of winners of the National Water Awards. The award ceremony will be held on October 22, and will be presided over by President Draupadi Murmu.

National Water Awards 2023: Restoration of 11,000 traditional reservoirs

Odisha's notable achievements in water conservation include the construction of over 53,000 water conservation and rainwater harvesting structures and the renovation of 11,000 traditional water reservoirs, a senior official said. Besides, 21,000 wastewater treatment plants were set up, bringing over 90,900 hectares of irrigated land under micro-irrigation systems and benefiting 87,000 farmers, he said.

National Water Awards 2023: Tap water connection in more than 17,900 villages

The official said the state has also made significant progress in afforestation and nine crore saplings were planted. The Jal Shakti Ministry said Uttar Pradesh, which came second, was lauded for its efforts under the Jal Jeevan Mission. Under the mission, more than 17,900 villages were provided with tap water connections, resulting in the benefit of 1.91 crore families.

According to the ministry, Uttar Pradesh has also made progress in wastewater management, constructing 133 sewage treatment plants (STPs) with a combined capacity of 4,100 MLD to reduce pollution in the Ganga River.
