Cyclone Dana : The deep depression over the east-central Bay of Bengal moved west-northwestwards at a speed of 3 mph during the past 6 hours and lay centered about 670 km southeast of Paradip (Odisha), 720 km south-southeast of Sagar Island (West Bengal) and 700 km south-southeast of Khepupara (Bangladesh) yesterday, the 22nd October.
Cyclone Dana can cause massive destruction.
It is very likely to move west-northwestwards and intensify into a cyclonic storm over the east-central Bay of Bengal during the next 12 hours. Thereafter, moving northwestwards, it is very likely to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm over the northwest Bay of Bengal by the 24th morning and cross north Odisha and West Bengal coasts between Puri and Sagar Island from 24th October night to 25th October morning as a severe cyclonic storm with wind speed reaching 100-110 mph gusting to 120 mph.
It may turn into a cyclonic storm by October 25
Meanwhile, due to Cyclone Dana, the IMD has advised fishermen not to venture into the sea till October 26. The cyclone is likely to have the greatest impact on Odisha and Bengal. The IMD has said that this weather system, continuing its movement, may cross the coasts of North Odisha and West Bengal between Puri and Sagar Island as a severe cyclonic storm during the night of October 24 and the morning of October 25. During this time the wind speed can range from 100-110 kmph to 120 kmph. Meanwhile, the Odisha government has announced that schools in 14 districts of the state will remain closed from October 23 to October 25 due to the impending cyclonic storm Dana.
