Deepa Karmakar Retirement : India's star gymnast Dipa Karmakar has announced her retirement. She shared this information through a post on social media and thanked her fans. Dipa missed the bronze medal by a narrow margin in the 2016 Rio Olympics.

31-year-old Dipa, who became the first Indian female gymnast to participate in the Olympics, had finished fourth in the vault event of the Rio Olympics and missed winning the bronze medal by just 0.15 points.

She wrote in her Instagram post, 'After a lot of thought, I have decided that I am retiring from gymnastics. This decision was not easy for me, but this is the right time. Gymnastics is a huge part of my life, and I am grateful for it every moment.

Today, I feel very proud to look back at my achievements. Representing India on the world stage and winning medals, and most importantly, performing at the Rio Olympics, have been the most memorable moments of my career.

My last victory, Asian Gymnastics Championships Tashkent, was a turning point because then I felt I could push my body further, but sometimes our body tells us it is time to rest but the heart still doesn’t agree.

I would like to thank my coaches Bishweshwar Nandi Sir and Soma Maam who have guided me for the last 25 years and have been my biggest strength. I would like to thank the Tripura Government, Gymnastics Federation, Sports Authority of India, GoSports Foundation, and Meraki Sport and Entertainment for the support I have received. And finally, my family who have always been there for me, just on good and bad days. I may be retiring, but my connection with gymnastics will never break.
