Delhi School Closed due to Pollution : Due to rising pollution and deteriorating AQI index in Delhi, schools in Delhi NCR region may soon be closed. Despite the ban on firecrackers, many residents celebrated by bursting fireworks, which further increased the thick smog in the city. According to Swiss company IQAir, New Delhi became the most polluted city in the world on Friday morning, November 1, a day after Diwali celebrations.

What was the AQI of Delhi

According to data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the average air quality index (AQI) in the last 24 hours was in the 'very poor' category at 328. Adverse meteorological conditions are causing concern among parents about school holidays.

The GRAP for Delhi-NCR is divided into four stages of air quality - Stage 1 "poor" Air Quality Index (AQI) between 201 to 300, Stage 2 "very poor" AQI of 301-400, Stage 3 "severe" AQI of 401-450 and Stage 4 "severe to very severe" AQI above 450.

The AQI remained above 350 in most areas of Delhi, reaching 352 in Aya Nagar, 390 in Jahangirpuri,, and 376 in Dwarka - all categorized as 'very poor' and considered to pose serious health risks.

Schools closed in Delhi?

As per the GRAP guidelines, schools and other educational institutions will remain closed once GRAP 4 restrictions are imposed. As per the CAQM guidelines, when the AQI is recorded above 450, GRAP stage 4 restrictions will be imposed.
