Kalkaji temple: A stampede broke out among devotees at Delhi's Kalkaji temple after a 17-year-old boy got an electric shock while standing in a queue for entry at midnight on Wednesday, police said on Thursday. The boy died after getting an electric shock and six people were injured in the stampede, police said.
Six injured were admitted to the hospital.
Police received information about a stampede near Kalkaji Mandir at 12:40 am on Wednesday night. Police said that after receiving the information, policemen reached the spot and six injured were admitted to AIIMS Trauma Center and Safdarjung Hospital. Meanwhile, doctors of Safdarjung Hospital informed the police about a boy who was brought to the hospital dead from the temple. Doctors said that he died due to electric shock.
The electric wire broke and fell on the iron railing
A senior police officer said that upon investigation, it was found that the electric wire being used to install halogen lights during Navaratri in the temple had snapped and fallen on the iron railing.
Police said the boy was standing in the queue and touched the railing, causing an electric shock and dying. After the incident, there was a stampede in the area in which six people were injured. Police said the case is under investigation.
