Demat Accounts: Due to the growing popularity of the stock market in India, the number of Demat accounts is increasing continuously. According to a report released on Monday, the number of demat accounts has increased to 17.9 crores in October, which was 17.5 crores in September. Motilal Oswal Financial Services' report said that 35 lakh new demat accounts were opened in October. Since the beginning of the current financial year, an average of 39 lakh demat accounts have been opened every month. This is the first time in the last four months that the number of new demat accounts has been less than 40 lakhs. The number of active customers on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) has increased by 2.4 percent every month to 4.89 crores.
NSDL's market share decreased
According to the report, CDSL's market share has increased in October in total demat accounts as well as in new demat accounts. During this period, NSDL's market share has decreased by 0.40 percent and 0.21 percent in total demat accounts and new demat accounts every year.
The top five discount brokers have a share of 64.5 percent of total NSE active clients, up from 61.4 percent in October 2023.
The number of customers increased on Grow.
In October, the number of clients of online brokerage firm Zorodha increased by 1.2 percent every month to 81 lakhs, while the market share declined by 0.15 percent to 16.5 percent. The number of clients on Grow increased by 2.8 percent every month to 1.26 crores. At the same time, the market share increased by 0.20 percent to 25.8 percent during this period.
Angel One and Upstox
The number of Angel One customers has increased by 2.4 percent on a monthly basis to 75 lakhs. The market share has been 15.4 percent. The number of Upstox customers has increased by 1.4 percent on a monthly basis to 29 lakhs. The market share has fallen by 0.05 percent to 5.8 percent.
Status of other brokers
Traditional brokers like ICICI Securities saw their client base grow by 0.70 percent every month to 19 lakhs and had a market share of 4 percent. Kotak Securities saw their client base grow by 2.8 percent every month to 15 lakhs and had a market share of 3 percent.
HDFC Securities' client base grew 3.2 percent on a monthly basis to 1.3 million and its market share stood at 2.7 percent.
