Delhi: Two more persons died of dengue in the capital, taking the number of dengue cases this year to 2,115, official data showed. In September, Delhi recorded its first dengue death this year when a 54-year-old man succumbed to the virus at Lok Nayak Hospital on September 8. The two persons died at Safdarjung Hospital and Maharaja Agrasen Hospital in west Delhi's Punjabi Bagh, a civic official said on condition of anonymity. The official, however, did not give details about when the deaths occurred and other details about the deceased.

These deaths have been reported in the MCD's weekly report in the capital. According to the report, a total of three deaths have been reported from dengue in the capital so far this year. Last year, there were 19 deaths due to dengue in Delhi. In the seven-day period between September 29 and October 5 in Delhi, 485 more cases of dengue were reported. The highest number of cases during this period were reported in the Najafgarh zone followed by the South Delhi zone. Last month, 1052 cases of dengue were reported in Delhi, which is the highest in any month so far this year.
Malaria cases have also increased from September 29 to October last week, with an increase of 81 cases. The total number of malaria cases this year has surpassed last year's record, with 511 cases of malaria recorded till October 5. Last year, 426 cases of malaria were reported in Delhi. Similarly, the number of chikungunya cases has also increased, which was 69 till October 5, while in 2023, 65 cases were reported in the entire year.
