Anshul Kamboj creates history: Just months after making his Indian Premier League debut for Mumbai Indians, Anshul Kamboj etched his name in the history books during the 2024 Duleep Trophy match between India C and India B at the Gramin Vikas Trust Stadium B in Anantapur on Sunday (September 15). Playing for the India C team, Kamboj rattled the India B batting unit to ensure his side got a crucial first-innings lead.
The match ended in a draw but the Ruturaj Gaikwad-led side managed to take three points while their opponents got just one point. Kamboj was the star of the show for India C as their batting unit put up a memorable total of 525 on the board, with Ishan Kishan scoring a hundred.
Kamboj created history
Kamboj stunned India B with a historic spell of bowling in which he took eight wickets and conceded just 69 runs. Kamboj became the third fast bowler in history to take eight wickets in the Duleep Trophy. It has been 12 years since a bowler has achieved this feat in the Duleep Trophy. Before him, Debashish Mohanty (10/46, East Zone vs South Zone 2001) and Ashok Dinda (8/123, East Zone vs North Zone 2012) had achieved this feat. His bowling figures are the second-best by a fast bowler and the fifth-best overall in the 63-year history of the Duleep Trophy.
Kamboj dismissed many strong batsmen.
The highlight of Kamboj's record-breaking spell was that he dismissed some of the top Indian batsmen of the current times. He took the wickets of Mushir Khan, Sarfaraz Khan, Rinku Singh, and Nitish Kumar Reddy. Captain Abhimanyu Easwaran proved to be the lone warrior for India B and scored an unbeaten 157 runs.
