Australia WTC Qualification Scenario: The Australian cricket team has performed brilliantly in the Border Gavaskar series played against India and won it by a huge margin of 3-1. India had their moments in both the Sydney Test and the series, but excessive dependence on Jasprit Bumrah and poor form of key players hurt them a lot and failed to qualify for the World Test Championship (WTC) final for the first time after making it to the last two cycles. Australia, on the other hand, qualified for their second consecutive final and are now set to face South Africa. However, it is still possible that the Kangaroos' dream may be shattered.

Australia currently have a PCT of 63.73 with two matches remaining against Sri Lanka. India's PCT is 50.00 and Pakistan and West Indies, who have matches left in the current cycle, are out of the race, but Sri Lanka have an outside chance. Sri Lanka's current PCT is 45.45. If they win their last two matches against Australia at home, their PCT will go up to 53.84. But that won't be enough as Australia's PCT will only come down to 57.02. But there is another way Sri Lanka can get there.

Can Australia be out of the WTC final like this?

If the Australian cricket team loses 2-0 against Sri Lanka and is penalised 8 points for slow over rate in both these matches, they will miss out on the World Test Championship 2025 final and Sri Lanka will qualify directly. However, since the spinners will have to do the heavy lifting in terms of bowling the majority of the overs, the over-rate is unlikely to come into the picture. But, this is the only scenario in which Australia will fail to qualify as their points will drop to 122 and their PCT will drop to 53.52.
