India vs Bangladesh Test: The second Test match between India and Bangladesh at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur was called off without a ball being bowled on the third day. Only 35 overs were bowled on the opening day of the match. India decided to bowl first and restricted Bangladesh to 107-3 at stumps on day one. Unfortunately, despite there being no rain on Saturday and Sunday, September 29, the play was called off on the third day too due to a wet outfield. In such a situation, the match is now expected to be called off or drawn.
The result of the second Test in Kanpur holds a lot of importance for Team India's chances of making it to the final of the ongoing World Test Championship (WTC). The Rohit Sharma-led side leads the 2023-25 WTC standings with a points percentage (PCT) of 71.67 from 10 matches.
This is how the Indian team will be able to qualify.
If the Kanpur Test ends in a draw, Rohit Sharma's side will have to win five of their remaining eight matches to ensure a place in the final, provided the other top two contenders do not lose points. After the Bangladesh series, India have three home Test matches against New Zealand and five away Tests against Australia.
As per the current WTC points standings, Australia is in second place with a PCT of 62.50. Sri Lanka are third with a point percentage of 55.54, while New Zealand are fourth with 42.86 PCT. To secure a spot in the WTC Final, Team India will have to ensure that they finish ahead of at least two of these three teams. India has already played the World Test Championship final twice.
