When AAP leader Sanjay Singh got bail

The date was April 2, 2024... when the Supreme Court granted bail to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh 6 months after his arrest. His release was delayed due to legal processes and he was released from Tihar Jail at around 8:15 pm on April 3, 2024. As soon as he was released from jail, he first went to Arvind Kejriwal's house, met his wife Sunita Kejriwal, and touched her feet. In this way, when Sanjay Singh got relief after six months, the Aam Aadmi Party became a little stronger.

Now the court has given relief to Manish Sisodia

On August 9, the Supreme Court granted bail to Manish Sisodia. He was released on furnishing a personal bond of Rs 10 lakh and two sureties of the same amount in corruption and money laundering cases registered by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED). The bench said that Sisodia has been in jail for 17 months, while the trial in the case has not yet started, due to which he has been deprived of the right to a speedy trial.

Now who will get bail in the liquor scam case?

Arvind Kejriwal is hopeful that he will soon get bail from the court in this case. The court has already granted him bail in the ED case, but his release in the CBI case is still pending. As soon as he came out of jail, Sisodia even claimed that conspiracies were being hatched to defame Kejriwal's work and that if the opposition leaders united against this dictatorship, Kejriwal would be released from jail in 24 hours. Next may be not only Kejriwal, but also K Kavita, who is behind bars in the alleged excise scam case.

Kavita's bail plea will be heard on August 12

The Supreme Court will hear the petition challenging the decision of the Delhi High Court. The High Court had refused to grant bail to Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) leader K. Kavitha in corruption and money laundering cases related to the alleged Delhi Excise Policy scam. That petition will be heard in the Supreme Court on August 12. On July 1, the Delhi High Court had rejected Kavitha's bail petitions in both the cases, saying that the BRS leader is prima facie one of the main conspirators in the criminal conspiracy related to the making and implementation of the Delhi Excise Policy 2021-22 (now repealed).

The High Court had rejected Kavita's bail plea

According to the cause list of August 12 uploaded on the Supreme Court website, a bench of Justices BR Gavai and KV Vishwanathan will hear the petitions. The High Court had rejected Kavitha's bail plea, saying that at present there is no case for granting regular bail as the investigation is at a crucial stage. The court, while rejecting Kavitha's bail plea for relief on the ground of being a woman, had said that being a well-educated person and a former MP, the BRS leader is not akin to a weak woman and the High Court cannot ignore the 'serious allegations' leveled against her.

What is the matter, why was the former CM's daughter arrested?

Kavitha, daughter of former Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, is accused of hatching a conspiracy with other members of a liquor racket called 'South Group' and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders to pay a bribe of Rs 100 crore to the ruling party in Delhi in exchange for liquor 'licenses'. A major part of this money was allegedly spent by the AAP on campaigning for the Goa assembly elections in 2022.

Legislative Council member Kavitha is accused of earning and using the proceeds of crime worth Rs 292 crore. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested Kavitha from her Banjara Hills residence in Hyderabad on March 15 in a money laundering case related to the Delhi Excise Policy, while the CBI arrested her from Tihar Jail on April 11 in a corruption case related to the alleged scam.
