Congress leader, Rahul Gandhi has on Sunday initiated the ‘White T-shirt Movement’ calling for more classism for the working class and those living under poverty. He observed a historic rise danger of speaking against the government led by Narendra Modi, after accusing it of acting in the interest of the capitalists and virtual shutting down of other small businesses. “Today, poor and hard working people don’t even matter for the Modi government, they have all been left to go rot. This government’s only aim is to fill the pockets of physically few selected capitalists. Because of this, inequality is forever increasing and the state of the nation’s natural workers is decaying. They have to suffer all sorts of injustice and cruelty,” Gandhi posted on X.
“Considering the reality, we all are required to rise and be heard demanding justice for them. Hence we are commencing #WhiteTshirtMovement. I request all my friends from working class and youth more than expecting them to wearing those tshirts to join these rallies.”
Gandhi, on the other hand, explained how to participate in. He wrote, “In order to be part of this campaign and for further queries about it, please follow this link - https://whitetshirt.in/home/hin or give a missed call on this number – 9999812024.”
What Is White T-Shirt Movement’?
The website of the initiative calls the white T shirt as more than an attire; it represents five guiding principles which are compassion, integrity, peace, equity and advancement for all of us.
“Such principles are an appeal to the ethos of India’s civilization which flourishes for around 8000 years and which is inclusive and pluralistic. In today’s world drastic and real inequalities founded upon income, caste and religion require more than just ideology,” the website explains.
The movement merges with the spirit of Bharat Jodo, while articulating its objectives is that of eliminating the differences of Uns and Ant’s and constructing that unity-justice in the civil or structural constructs of the Nation. “The white T-shirt is our symbol. A call for justice, for a united India. Wearing it signifies, that we are upholding the Bharat Jodo spirit which coincides to the philosophy of Bharat Jodo Yatra- there is a need to cut across the divides and develop a fair united country,” explains the website.
