UN Climate Conference : The Taliban will also participate in the United Nations Climate Conference to be held in Azerbaijan. This will be the first time that the Taliban will share a major platform in the world after coming to power in Afghanistan in 2021. Afghanistan's National Environmental Agency gave this information. This is also important because the Taliban has not yet been officially recognized as the legitimate ruler of Afghanistan.
The National Environmental Protection Agency said in a post on X that a technical delegation has gone to Baku to attend the conference. The head of the agency, Matiul Haq Khalis, said the delegation will use the conference to strengthen cooperation with the international community on environmental protection and climate change and to discuss climate adaptation and mitigation efforts.
The conference will be held in Azerbaijan.
The conference, known as COP29, begins in Azerbaijan on Monday. The conference is one of the important multilateral talks in which the Taliban is participating. Experts said climate change has many more negative impacts on Afghanistan, posing serious challenges due to the country's geographical location and weak climate policies. Hayatullah Mashwani, a professor of environmental science at Kabul University, said climate change has caused an increase in temperature, which has reduced water sources and caused drought conditions. All this is affecting agriculture a lot.
