Gautam Gambhir’s tenure as head coach for the Indian cricket team has only been less than a year after being in charge for Rahul Dravid, However, this hasn’t come without its hiccups as India has suffered humiliating losses to Australia, New Zealand as well as Sri Lanka during his management. As argues by Gautam, the 2011 World cup was lost due to the horrible performance put up by Gautam and Subha Ghosh Gautam.

As per Press Trust of India, Gautam stands in a precarious position as India stands out to perform poorly in the Champions Trophy 2025, Consequently resulting in a reevaluation of his tenure, making it a high chances to get removed after the mega event which is set to take place in the UAE between February 19 to March 9.

“If India gets knocked out from the Champions Trophy, things will get difficult for the head coach. He signed until the World Cup in 2027 but the assessment continues. Sport is result-based and as of now, Gambhir has not provided the expected results," a high ranking member of BCCI confided in PTI on the condition of anonymity.

Gautam’s Not So Good Experience As A Coach Of The Indian Side

Last July India set out to Sri Lanka for bilateral ODI series that India lost for the first time in 27 years and to add insult to injury, Gambhir was made in charge of the team prior. Following the ODI series that India’s men went on to lose a home series of Test matches to New Zealand which ended with a record of being 12 years undefeated in Test matches. India witnessed a complete white wash with the match ending in 3 matches. This makes this the first instance of India losing a test series of 3 or more matches being played on home soil.

The team did not manage to continue with the record of winning Border-Gavaskar Trophy fourth time in a row, Australia after a gap of 10 years won the coveted trophy. Australia led the series of best out of five winning three matches, unfortunately India managed to win just one.

In addition to the dismal results, allegations of discord within the side have surfaced. Differences between the head coach Gautam Gambhir and Rohit Sharma have become quite evident. Gautam gambhir has been contracted by BCCI for three and a half years until December 2027.
