If the Indian team fails to win the Border Gavaskar Trophy, then Gambhir will have to bear the brunt of it and the post of Test team coach will go out of his hands.

When the main coaching staff is given rest, Laxman takes over the responsibility of the team's head coach in between. Laxman is the coach for the 4-match T20 series against South Africa.
