Sydney: Legendary batsman Sunil Gavaskar has expressed his displeasure at not being invited to present the trophy named after him and Allan Border to the Australian team. Australia won the Border Gavaskar Trophy for the first time in ten years by defeating India by six wickets in the fifth and final Test.

Despite being present on the field, he was not called on the stage

Border presented the trophy to the Australian team, but Gavaskar was not invited despite being present on the field at the time. Gavaskar later told Code Sports, 'I would have been happy to go to the prize distribution ceremony. After all, this is the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and it is related to Australia and India. I was on the field. I do not care that the trophy was being given to Australia. They played better cricket and won. Okay.'

This happened just because I was an Indian

Gavaskar further said, 'Just because I am an Indian. I would have been happy to present the trophy with my good friend Allan Border.' India and Australia have been playing for the Border Gavaskar Trophy since 1996-97. This time in the five-match series, the record of viewership at the Melbourne Cricket Ground was broken last week.
