Brisbane: After the rain-hit third Test against Australia ended in a draw, Indian captain Rohit Sharma on Wednesday praised the fighting spirit of the lower-order batsmen and said that it has given confidence to his team for the remaining two matches. The five-match series is tied at 1-1. The next Test will be played in Melbourne from December 26. Rohit said after the match, "It was not good that the match was repeatedly interrupted by rain but going to Melbourne with the series tied at 1-1 has boosted our confidence."

Bumrah and Akashdeep showed fighting spirit

He said, 'Someone had to take responsibility for the situation we were in after lunch on the fourth day. Looking at the weather, we knew that the match would not be completed.' After KL Rahul's 84 runs, Ravindra Jadeja played an innings of 77 runs. After this, Akash Deep (31) and Jaspreet Bumrah (10 not out) saved India from follow-on by making a partnership of 47 runs for the last wicket. Rohit said, 'Jadeja and Rahul have to be praised. After this, it was good to see the fighting spirit shown by Akash Deep and Bumrah.'

Akashdeep is a passionate cricketer

He said, 'Bumrah performed brilliantly in bowling. Akashdeep is a very passionate cricketer and always wants to contribute. He is new to international cricket but he has worked hard in the nets. There are people in the team to help him.'

We wanted to win the match, and maintained the pressure throughout the match

Australian captain Pat Cummins expressed disappointment over the rain interruption and said, 'We wanted a 2-1 result but we can't do anything about the weather. We scored big and maintained the pressure throughout the match. Steve Smith and Travis Head's innings were excellent. Scarlett got wickets and Lyon also bowled well. Our performance was good in every department. Now we are waiting for the Melbourne Test.'
