KL Rahul Fitness Update: Veteran Indian cricketer KL Rahul batted in the India nets on Sunday, allaying concerns over his fitness ahead of the opening Test against Australia starting at the Optus Stadium on November 22.

This will be a big relief for the Indian team management amid the possibility of injured Shubman Gill and captain Rohit Sharma not playing in the first match. Rohit has recently become the father of his second child. In the 'intra-squad' (Indian players practice by dividing into two teams) practice match at the WACA ground on Friday, Rahul left the field for treatment after a ball from fast bowler Prasidh Krishna hit his elbow while batting.

KL Rahul can open the innings

On Sunday, the 32-year-old batted without any problems and took part in all the drills during the three-hour net session and also batted for a considerable time. "He is looking fine now and the physios will monitor him for the next few days to ensure he is not having any issues," a Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) source told PTI. Gill has a fracture in his thumb, so it is almost certain that he will not play in this match, which will allow Rahul to open the innings in Perth. Indian bowlers, led by vice-captain Jasprit Bumrah, also did some hard practice in the nets here. The Indian team has finished training at the WACA ground and the players will go to Optus Stadium from Tuesday for match drills. Monday is a rest day.
