IND vs AUS 1st Test Match Updates, Nitish Reddy Reaction on Virat Kohli Debut Cap: Fast bowling all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy, who made a mark in his debut match on the first day of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, expressed his happiness on receiving the India cap from Virat Kohli. The 21-year-old Reddy considered it a 'dream come true moment' for him as he considers the right-handed Kohli as his cricket 'idol'. Reddy made a significant contribution with the bat in India's first innings scoring 150 runs.
"It was a great feeling. I always dreamt of doing well for Indian cricket, and it was a great moment and so was getting the cap from Virat bhai. He has been my idol ever since I started playing cricket. So getting the cap from him was a happy moment for me as well and I wanted to continue it," Nitish said at the press conference later in the day on Friday.
Rishabh Pant and Nitish found themselves trying to save the Indian innings when the latter came to the crease at 73/6 and added 48 runs for the seventh wicket partnership before Pant was dismissed by Pat Cummins. Reddy continued to try and take the Indian innings forward and managed to take the team to a score of 150, but was caught by Usman Khawaja at 41 and became India's highest scorer on the day.
He said, "It was a good start, not a dream innings, but a good start. Honestly, the India A series helped me a lot because it was my first Test match in Australia. There is a lot of difference in bounce etc. when playing on this wicket compared to India. I felt there was more (help) from the wicket here (compared to MCG), but apart from that the bounce and everything was the same as Melbourne.''
After being bowled out for 150, India's bowling attack led by interim skipper Jasprit Bumrah gave the Australian batsmen a tough time on Day 1. The 31-year-old Bumrah picked up crucial wickets of Khawaja, Nathan McSweeney, Steve Smith, and skipper Pat Cummins to reduce the hosts to 67-7 at stumps on Day 1.
