IND vs AUS : The decision of giving out caught behind to Indian batsman KL Rahul in the first Test against Australia has created a controversy and former cricketers of both the countries have raised questions on the decision of the third umpire who changed the on-field umpire decision of 'not out'.

Field umpire Richard Kettleborough had given the decision in favor of Rahul but the host team took DRS.

Third umpire Richard Illingworth changed the decision without seeing the 'split screen view'. All this happened just ten minutes before lunch and India lost four wickets for 51 runs. Rahul scored 26 runs in 74 balls and also indicated that his bat had touched the pad when the ball passed the edge. Rahul left the field shaking his head in disappointment.

Former India head coach Ravi Shastri, commentating for Fox Cricket, said that the third umpire did not have enough evidence to change the on-field umpire's decision. He said, "My initial reaction was whether the third umpire had enough evidence to change the on-field umpire's decision. The on-field umpire had given him not out. I don't think there were enough reasons to change this decision." Former Australia batsman Michael Hussey admitted that the third umpire's decision is controversial.

Apart from this, Wasim Akram also questioned this decision and said that the third umpire had shot an arrow in the air. There was no concrete evidence of Rahul's dismissal and he should get the benefit of it.

He said, "It is controversial. There was a spike on the snickometer but it is not known whether it was due to the ball hitting the bat or the bat hitting the pad. You can see that the bat is hitting the pad. I have doubts about it in my mind. This decision cannot be justified 100 percent. The disappointing thing is that the technology is there to make the right decision.

Former Australian opener Matthew Hayden said, "Rahul's pad and bat are not together when the ball passes. After passing the edge of the ball, the bat hits the pad. Snicko has probably caught the same sound. We feel that Snicko has caught the sound of the ball hitting the bat but maybe it is not so."

Australia's great batsman Mark Waugh said, "It is a very bold decision as we have seen what has happened. Unfortunately, KL Rahul has to accept it although he will not be happy." Former India cricketer Wasim Jaffer tweeted, "The third umpire had asked for another angle which was not given. If he was not sure then why did he change the decision of the field umpire?

He said, "The technology was misused and the correct protocol was not followed." Former cricketer Irfan Pathan said, "If you are not sure then why did you give him out?" Former ICC Elite Panel umpire Simon Taufel told '7 Cricket', "We saw that there was a spike on the snicko but it was because of the bat hitting the pad."
