Adelaide: After losing the second day-night Test match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) against Australia, Indian captain Rohit Sharma said that Jaspreet Bumrah is also a human being and cannot always carry the entire bowling load on his own. Rohit asked the other bowlers of the team to raise their level to support Bumrah. India lost to Australia by 10 wickets in the second Test. Bumrah took four wickets in Australia's first innings during this period.
Bumrah cannot bowl from both ends.
Rohit said in the post-match press conference, 'Jasprit Bumrah cannot take responsibility alone. You cannot expect him to bowl from both ends. Other bowlers also need to come forward and share the responsibility because there will be days when Bumrah will not get wickets.'
Harshit Rana did nothing wrong in the first test.t
Young Harshit Rana conceded 86 runs in 16 overs, but the captain defended this bowler who has played only two Tests after the big defeat in Adelaide. When asked about this Delhi bowler, Rohit said, 'It would not be right to judge Harshit Ranbased onof one Test match. I don't think he has done anything wrong and it would not be good to drop him without any reason. They (Australia) have a good player (Travis Head) who was successful in putting pressure on him. Rana is a player with strong passion.'
We cannot put pressure on Shami to make a comeback.
After the Indian bowling was exposed in this match, there is a demand for Mohammad Shami's return to the team as soon as possible, but Rohit said that the Bengal fast bowler's knee has become swollen again. He said, 'The team's doors are open for Shami but his knee has become swollen again while playing in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. We are keeping an eye on him and we do not want to put any pressure on him to return.'
There is pressure on the Indian captain to include Shami in the team but his body language indicated that the return of this fast bowler may take some time. Rohit was seen avoiding giving much importance to the altercation between Head and fast bowler Mohammad Siraj. After dismissing Head, Siraj had an altercation with him. Head later claimed that he told Siraj, 'Well bowled' but the Indian bowler called his statement a lie.
A certain amount of aggression is oka.y
Rohit defended Siraj and said, 'There is very little difference between being aggressive during the game and being over-aggressive. As a captain, it is my job to see that no one crosses this line. Some words can be exchanged. Siraj knows what he needs to do for the team and he will do everything necessary.' When asked further on the matter by the Australian media, Rohit said, 'When India and Australia play, such things happen. My job is not to look at one incident but to look at the bigger picture.'
