Rohit Sharma on Kanpur Test Win: The Indian cricket team performed brilliantly and thrillingly defeated the Bangladesh cricket team in the second test match played in Kanpur. With this victory, Team India has won the series 2-0. After India's dramatic victory, captain Rohit Sharma said that the host team was ready to take the risk of getting out for around 100 runs to get a result in the weather-affected second test match against Bangladesh.
Due to rain and wet outfield at Green Park Stadium, not a single ball could be bowled in the second and third overs but despite this India was able to win the match comfortably on the fifth day. Only 35 overs could be played on the first day as well. On the fourth day after bowling out Bangladesh for 233 runs in the first innings, India batted in T20 style and declared their first innings at 285 for nine in 34.4 overs. Bangladesh lost two wickets in the last session on the fourth day and their second innings folded for 146 runs before lunch on the fifth day. India then achieved the target of 95 runs in the second session.
We were ready to get out on 100- Rohit.
Rohit said during the post-match prize distribution ceremony that 'After losing two and a half days (due to bad weather), when we came on the field on the fourth day, we wanted to get them out as soon as possible and see what we could do with the bat. It was a great effort to get a result on this pitch. It was a risk we were willing to take because when you try to bat like this, you can get out on a low score. But we were ready for it, even if we got out for 100-120 runs.'
Rohit was happy with the performance of Akash Deep.
Rohit further said that 'He (Akash Deep) is looking good. He has played a lot of domestic cricket. When you come up like this, you have bowled a lot of overs. He has quality and skill. The body is also good and can also bowl long spells. You have to prepare your bench strength.' This was the first Test series under the guidance of new head coach Gautam Gambhir who took over the responsibility from Rahul Dravid. Rohit said, "We had a great time (with Dravid) but life goes on. I have played with Gautam Gambhir and know what kind of mindset he comes with.
