Indian captain Rohit Sharma is confident that despite losing the first Test to New Zealand by eight wickets, his team will bounce back just like it did by winning four consecutive matches against England earlier this year. After being bowled out for their lowest score of 46 runs in a home Test in the first innings, the Indian team bounced back in the second innings but lost by eight wickets.
Rohit said in the prize distribution ceremony after the match, "Such matches happen. We will forget this and move forward. We have won four matches after losing one match against England. We know what each player has to do." He admitted that he made a mistake in understanding the situation but he also said that he did not think that the Indian team would be out for 46 runs.
Rohit said, "I had said in the press conference that we knew there would be trouble in the beginning but we did not think that the team would be out for 46 runs. New Zealand bowled well and we failed." He said, "We batted well in the second innings. When you are 350 runs behind, you cannot do much. Some good partnerships were made. We could have been out cheaply but that did not happen. Sarfaraz and Rishabh batted brilliantly. Sarfaraz played a very mature innings."
Rachin Ravindra, who played IPL for Chennai Super Kings, had the experience of playing on red and black soil, which enabled him to face Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja. Ravindra, who scored a century in the first innings, said, "During the preparations in Chennai, we practiced on different pitches, red and black soil, which helped a lot." Ravindra's grandparents still live in Bangalore and he felt very good playing such an innings in front of the family. He said, "It was a good city and a good wicket for batting. It was emotional to play in front of the family. This made this inning more special."
