Sanju Samson's unwanted record: Sanju Samson, who created history by scoring a century in the first T20I match played between India and South Africa, has made an embarrassing record just 48 hours later during the second T20 International match between India and South Africa at St. George's Park in Guatemala on Sunday (November 10). South Africa won the toss and decided to bowl first, but Samson's attempt to create a world record by scoring a third consecutive century did not last long as he was dismissed for zero after facing just three balls. Marco Jansen uprooted the stumps of the 29-year-old.

Samson's dismissal was the start of a poor start for India as it was followed by Abhishek Sharma's dismissal in the second over after scoring just four runs. Later, skipper Suryakumar Yadav failed to make a mark after scoring four runs off nine balls, resulting in the Men in Blue losing three wickets in the powerplay.

An unwanted record attached to Samson's name

After getting out for a duck against South Africa, Samson has become the first Indian player to get out for a duck four times in a calendar year in T20Is. Rajasthan Royals (captain) had earlier got out without troubling the scorers in the third T20I against Afghanistan in Bengaluru in January. After that, they failed to open their account in two consecutive matches against Sri Lanka in Pallekele in July.

Most ducks in a calendar year in T20Is for India

1. Sanju Samson – 4 (2024)

2. Yusuf Pathan- 3 (2009)

3. Rohit Sharma - 3 (2018)

4. Rohit Sharma- 3 (2022)

5. Virat Kohli- 3 (2024)

A strong comeback in the team

After being out of the team, Samson has finally got a chance to play regularly in the Indian team in 2024. He was part of the 2024 T20 World Cup-winning squad but did not play a single match as Rishabh Pant was picked as the first-choice wicketkeeper-batsman. Samson has played 10 of India's last 11 T20Is and has opened the batting in each of the last five. Overall, the 29-year-old has played 11 matches this year and scored 327 runs at an average of 36.33 and a strike rate of 177.71.
