Ahmedabad: Indian women's cricket team captain Harmanpreet Kaur admitted that her team needs to immediately get rid of its batting problems after its 76-run defeat to New Zealand in the second women's ODI on Sunday. Chasing a target of 260 runs to win, the Indian team was all out at 183 in 47.1 overs. The team lost eight wickets at 108 runs. Radha Yadav (48) and Saima Thakor (29) saved India from an embarrassing defeat by adding 70 runs for the ninth wicket. Harmanpreet scored 24 runs.
Need to work on batting
Harmanpreet said after the match, 'We could not perform as expected. These players are ready and eager to perform well for the country. Batting is something we really need to work on and if we do that then we can win the series. He said, 'I think our fielding was also poor. We gave a lot of runs and dropped a lot of catches. This target could have been achieved but we did not bat well. It was good to see that Radha and Saima performed well in batting. We kept losing wickets while chasing the target. We will focus on building a partnership in the next match.'
Team India got the target of 260 runs
The third and decisive match of the series will be played at the same venue on Tuesday. India won the first match by 59 runs. Batting first, New Zealand captain Sophie Devine contributed 79 runs in 86 balls with the help of seven fours and a six. She shared a crucial 82-run partnership for the fifth wicket with Maddie Green (42 runs in 41 balls) to take New Zealand to a challenging score of 259 for nine wickets.
Devine said we played good cricket
After batting, Devine also performed brilliantly with the ball. She took three wickets for 27 runs and was adjudged Player of the Match. She said, "I am very happy with the way the match progressed. We had talked about playing good cricket for a long time and were successful in doing so. We talked about ensuring partnerships. The way Green and Gage batted, we reached a competitive score."
