Mumbai: Mumbai Indians, the most successful team in the history of the Indian Premier League, has made a major change in the support staff of the team ahead of the auction for IPL 2025 and has once again appointed former Sri Lankan legend Mahela Jayawardene as the head coach of the team. Mahela Jayawardene has previously served as the head coach of Mumbai from 2017 to 2022.
Jayawardene returned after two years.
During his tenure as head coach, Mumbai won the title in the years 2017, 2019, and 2020. Mumbai made him the global head of Mumbai Indians and appointed former South African wicketkeeper-batsman Mark Boucher as the head coach. But after the team failed to win a single title during Boucher's tenure, Jayawardene has returned to the team as the head coach.
Paras Mahambre became a bowling coach.
With Jayawardene's return to the team, Mumbai Indians have also got a new bowling coach. Former Team India bowling coach Paras Mahambre has also become the bowling coach of Mumbai. Lasith Malinga, who had left Rajasthan Royals and returned to the Mumbai team, has been sacked.
