IPL Retention 2025 : As the IPL 2025 retention deadline approaches, the curiosity of the fans about their team is increasing. In such a situation, former Australian player Tom Moody calmed the curiosity of Punjab Kings fans, he feels that after the poor performance of the IPL 2024 season, Punjab Kings will use the Right to Match (RTM) option for Arshdeep Singh, Jitesh Sharma, Sam Curran, and Kagiso Rabada ahead of the mega auction for the next season of the league later this year.

Punjab will retain 6 players.

IPL franchises can retain a total of six players from their existing squad. This can be done either through retention or through the Right to Match option. The six retentions/RTMs can include a maximum of five capped players (Indian and overseas) and a maximum of two uncapped players.

The auction purse for franchises has been set at Rs 120 crore for IPL 2025. The last date for franchises to finalize their retention list is October 31.

Moody mentioned 6 names.

Speaking to Star Sports about potential IPL retentions for Punjab Kings, Moody said, "For Punjab Kings, I don't think I will retain any players, certainly not the capped players but I would like to use the RTM option for players like Arshdeep Singh, Sam Curran and Rabada. Jitesh Sharma is another player I would consider using the RTM for in the auction."

Shashank got a place as an uncapped player.

He picked uncapped Shashank Singh and Harpreet Brar as potential retentions from Punjab, which will complete his list of six players. Shashank was the highest run-scorer for the franchise last season with 354 runs at a strike rate of 164.65, including two half-centuries. Harpreet, on the other hand, took seven wickets in 13 matches.

"When it comes to uncapped players, there are some good players I would like to include in the team before the auction. Shashank Singh, who is a brilliant middle-order power hitter while Harpreet Brar is a left-arm spinner," the former Australian batsman said.

Performance was poor in 2024

Punjab Kings finished second last in the 2024 edition. They won five matches and lost nine. They will be hoping to make changes to their team through the player auction ahead of the upcoming edition of the IPL.
