What is IUI?

IUI is a type of artificial insemination. The IUI ProcedureDuring a hysterectomy, the doctor collects a sperm sample and "washes" it, removing debris and sperm. The doctor uses a catheter (thin tube) to insert the washed sperm directly into the uterus (womb). With this method, the sperm bypasses the vagina and cervix, making it easier to become fertile.

1. Fallopian tubes 

Blocked fallopian tubes can lead to changes in the menstrual cycle or irregular periods. Dr. Tanya says that women whose fallopian tubes are blocked or completely closed cannot conceive through IUI. Talk to a gynecologist and obstetrician to find out whether your fallopian tubes are blocked or not.

2. Endometriosis

In this condition, the uterine lining starts forming outside the uterus, which can block the fallopian tubes. Women who have endometriosis are more likely to fail to conceive through IUI. Apart from this, medical conditions like endometriosis or polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) can also reduce the effectiveness of IUI.

3. When IVF fails

The AMH hormone produced in the granulosa cells in the ovarian follicles helps in determining the number of remaining egg cells.

5. After the age of 35

The doctor says that the process of conceiving through IUI becomes difficult for women after the age of 35. IVF should be the only option to conceive after the age of 35.
