
India becomes 3rd largest power in Asia : India has now overtaken Japan to become the third largest power in the continent of Asia. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has given this information according to the Asia Power Index. The ministry said that this change in dynamics reflects India's "growing geopolitical stature, dynamic development, young population, and expanding economy".
Asia Power Index
The Asia Power Index, launched in 2018 by the Australian think tank Lowy Institute, evaluates 27 countries in the Asia-Pacific region. According to the Asia Power Index Report 2024 , India has overtaken Japan for the first time with 39.1 points to come to third place. Japan is in fourth place with 38.9 points. Till a year ago, India was ranked fourth in this report. According to the index report, China is in second place and the United States is in first place.
India did economic reform after the pandemic.
On this achievement, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting said, "One of the most important findings in the 2024 Asia Power Index is India's steady rise in the regional power rankings. Given this growth, India is trying to achieve its full potential and exert its influence in the region." According to the 2024 version of the index, India has shown remarkable economic recovery after the pandemic, increasing its economic potential by 4.2 points. India's huge population and strong GDP growth strengthen its position as the world's third-largest economy in terms of purchasing power parity (PPP).
