Caste Census: The issue of caste census has given a big blow to the Bharatiya Janata Party. JDU, an ally of the Narendra Modi government, has supported the opposition on this issue and has raised the demand for caste census across the country. On Thursday, JDU echoed the opposition's voice and demanded the inclusion of caste-based census as a topic for discussion in the Parliamentary Committee on Other Backward Classes Welfare.

Sources said that Janata Dal (U) member Girdhari Yadav wanted the caste-based census issue to be listed for discussion by the committee. Earlier, JDU leader and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had also advocated caste census. During his tenure with RJD, he had ordered a caste-based survey in his state and its findings were made public last year.

DMK raised the issue of caste census

In the meeting of the Parliamentary Committee, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) member TR Balu raised this issue. BJP member Ganesh Singh is the chairman of this committee. Parliament sources said that Congress member Manikam Tagore wanted the committee to list a caste-based census as the first topic for discussion. Trinamool Congress member Kalyan Banerjee supported him. Kalyan Banerjee demanded that the committee write a letter to the Union Home Ministry on the issue of conducting caste-based census. At the same time, a BJP member said that recruitments made on contract and temporary basis and ad-hoc appointments should also be included in the scope of reservation.

Rahul Gandhi has also raised the demand

Let us tell you, the opposition is raising the issue of caste census in the country loudly. Congress is at the forefront of this. Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi has raised the issue of caste census many times. He has even said that if the Congress government is formed, a caste census will be conducted in the country.
