His two-year term is ending on November 10. In such a situation, the government wrote a letter to the CJI last Friday and asked him to send his recommendation.
Let us tell you, that DY Chandrachud took charge as the 50th Chief Justice of the country on November 9, 2022. After him, Justice Sanjiv Khanna is the most senior judge of the Supreme Court. If Justice Sanjiv Khanna becomes the Chief Justice of the country, his tenure will be six months and he will retire on May 13, 2025.
CJI removed the blindfold of the goddess of law
Earlier, on the orders of Supreme Court Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, important changes have been made to the statue of the Goddess of Justice seen in the courts. These changes are clearly giving a big message. Earlier, the eyes of the statue of the Goddess of Justice were blindfolded, but now this blindfold has been removed, which is probably an attempt to give the message to the common people that the law is not blind. Usually, earlier people used to refer to this statute and say that the law is blind. However, earlier the message of this blindfold was that during the judicial process, the court does not give a verdict by looking at the face, but there is equal justice for every person.
Constitution instead of a sword in hand
Along with this, earlier the statue of the Goddess of Justice used to have a sword in its left hand, which has been removed. Now the Constitution has been placed in place of the sword, through which an attempt has been made to give the message that legal action will be taken against every accused. The statue of the Goddess of Justice in the court has been in use since the British era, but now by changing it, a commendable initiative has been taken to change the image of the judiciary according to the times. The Chief Justice is engaged in the initiative to change the tradition that has been going on since the British era in the judicial process and to mix the color of Indianness in it. Keeping this in mind, this step has been taken. Through these changes made in the Statue of Justice, he wants to implement the right to equality contained in the Constitution at the ground level. These changes are being welcomed all around.
