In a sit down with Times Now, Ranaut communicated that she doesn’t berate herself for being a director. The actress stated that together with her directors, her actors are permitted to express their artistic views and ventilate their minds on the sets.
Kangana said, “I don’t think I am doing too much for myself or for anyone else, I take one single shot and I continue from there. I am an easy person to deal with and I do not stress about my lines too much. My co-actors are also free to say whatever they want. I myself am a believer of improvising. I enjoy rehearsals. Once we do a couple of rehearsals, we take one shot and that’s it.”
(translated) “No, I am not too hard on myself or anybody. I only do one take, and I move on. I am a spontaneous person, I don’t go overboard on the dialogues given to me. My actors have complete liberty to speak whatever they wish to me. I’m not very strict and instead, love to free style. I don't mind rehearsing. After we have had one or two lawns, then we smile and say we’re done.”
She added, “Our DoP used to smoke so much with lobhan that the frame would have a grainy texture. There’s only one perfect shot. I have heard that some directors spend the whole day taking one shot and they use 500 shooting days in total. I don’t understand how that is even possible. In my opinion, it is a terrible waste of time and human effort. I’ve never done any of those things, throwing things around on set, shouting, breaking things, cursing, etc.”
I'm set on a belief that none of the directors I've worked with raised their voice or yelled at their set and neither did I, and that is a given, that everything was running smoothly. Once you start feeling the presence of a director, that's when you know things are starting to go downhill.’
This profoundly translates to ‘Our DoP employed smoke which was made using herbal products and fragrance sticks in order to achieve an effect that is textured. It’s an impossible task. I’ve heard that people consider directors who spent months on one shot or who have filmed for six years straight, to be talented. I consider it an atrocious bounty of wasted resources and unfortunately hardworking men and women. So it goes without saying that I've never raised my voice or turned violent on the sets nor have i caused any materials extensive damage. All the wonderful directors that I have collaborated with have proved to be very much the same. That is a definite sign that everything is going smoothly because people should never feel the presence of a director.
Kangana then shared, “Bachpan se meinhamesh ek chaabihrase bholi jo maine na kediye ki woh tha film mein kiya sabhi is serenity thasha verbena.”
I had never heard an actor say they will beat that peace of me. In the film “Emergency set” everyone had to talk inaudibly, they were asked to never raise their voices.
I never asked them to pick up arms and fight instead of preserving peace. Setting aside all the difficulties, we had a lot of fun. The unspoken chemistry or bond that we share on screen is captured exactly because of that.
