Devotees Attacked At Canada Temple: An incident of attack on Hindu devotees has come to light in a temple in Brampton, Canada. On Sunday, a group of devotees at the Hindu Sabha Mandir were targeted by Khalistani supporters, causing outrage among the people. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Monday condemned the attack on Hindu devotees at the temple and said that incidents of violence in the country are unacceptable. Trudeau said, the incidents of violence at the Hindu Sabha Mandir in Brampton today are unacceptable. Every Canadian has the right to practice his faith freely and safely. He thanked the police for the safety of the Hindu community and for their quick response to investigate the incident.
Even children and women were not spared.
Videos of the incident, which were widely shared online, including by Canadian MPs, show a group of Khalistanis wielding sticks and attacking devotees outside the temple. The mob carried flags associated with pro-Khalistani groups. Reacting on social media, the Hindu Canadian Foundation said children and women were also attacked in the incident.
According to reports, before the attack, a group of Khalistani supporters were demonstrating in memory of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots. The incident escalated tensions in the area, forcing the Canadian police to deploy a large number of personnel. Peel Regional Police Chief Nishan Duraiappah urged restraint, saying that we respect the right to protest peacefully and safely, but we will not tolerate violence and criminal acts. He said that those who engage in such activities will be pursued, arrested, and charged.
Jagmeet Singh said, violence is wrong.
Rao Yendamuri of Hindu Forum Canada said a similar riot-like situation had occurred at the Laxminarayan temple in Surrey. Trudeau's ally and Sikh MP Jagmeet Singh remarked that violence anywhere is wrong and appealed for peace. He tweeted, "Every Canadian should have the freedom to visit their place of worship in peace. I unequivocally condemn the acts of violence at the Hindu Sabha Mandir. Violence anywhere is wrong. I join community leaders in calling for peace."
MP Chandra Arya warned
Indian-origin Canadian MP Chandra Arya reacted strongly, saying that Khalistani extremists have crossed the red line. The MP, who tweeted a video of the incident, said, "Canadian Khalistani extremists have crossed a red line today." The attack by Khalistanis on Hindu-Canadian devotees inside the premises of the Hindu Sabha Mandir in Brampton shows how deep and violent Khalistani violent extremism has become in Canada. At the same time, Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown said that he was disappointed to hear about the violence outside the Hindu temple.
