BJP will form government in Haryana on October 8: Saini claims

Haryana Chief Minister Naib Singh Saini on Saturday evening claimed that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will form the government in the state for the third consecutive time with a huge majority. Chief Minister Saini has made this claim at a time when many exit polls of Haryana assembly elections have projected the possibility of Congress' victory. After the voting ended, he told reporters in Kurukshetra that the BJP government has worked for every section in the last 10 years. Responding to a question on the results of the exit poll, Saini said, "Haryana has been freed from regionalism, familyism and discrimination against the state." He said, "We are confident that we have given new impetus to the development of Haryana and on October 8, BJP will form the government in Haryana for the third consecutive time with a huge majority."

Army deployed in Islamabad and Lahore amid protests by Imran's party

The situation turned tense as supporters of former prime minister Imran Khan reached D-Chowk in the heart of the capital to register a symbolic victory amid heavy deployment of the army in Islamabad. Clashes also broke out between supporters of Imran Khan's party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and policemen in Islamabad and Lahore. Party workers in Lahore tried to march towards the Minar-e-Pakistan ground, calling it a "do or die" situation. Police fired tear gas shells throughout the day to prevent PTI workers and supporters from reaching D-Chowk in Islamabad, but rain and changes in wind direction sent the smoke toward the policemen, allowing protesters to reach the venue in the evening. However, it was not clear at around 9 pm whether the protesters would stay there or leave. Security personnel returned to D-Chowk after the rain stopped. Earlier, authorities had called in the army in Islamabad and Lahore to prevent protests by Khan's party.
