The Uttar Pradesh government has prepared a new manual for the appointment to the post of Director General of Police (DGP). The state cabinet has also approved it. Official sources said on Tuesday that the state cabinet approved the 'Director General of Police, Uttar Pradesh (Chief of Police Force of Uttar Pradesh) Selection and Appointment Rules 2024' in its meeting on Monday. According to a statement issued by the state government, the purpose of this manual is to establish an independent and transparent mechanism for the appointment of the Director General of Police to ensure that this selection is free from 'political or executive interference' and is also by the specific conditions of Uttar Pradesh and the needs of the police system. Advocate Utkarsh Aggarwal, representing Bajaj, told PTI-Bhasha that this is a violation of the rules related to live broadcast of proceedings of the Madhya Pradesh High Court. He said, "The petition also requests the court to issue directions for the recovery of the said money from those who earned money by illegally sharing live court proceedings videos on social media platforms and through the viewership (number of people watching) received on these videos. Some videos which were illegally uploaded in violation of copyright were specifically presented.'' A division bench of Chief Justice S.K. Kait and Justice Vivek Jain heard the petition. Agarwal said that notice had been issued to YouTube and X during the hearing of the petition.
