MCD Mayor Election Result: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate Mahesh Kumar Khichi has won the mayoral election of Delhi Municipal Corporation. Mahesh Kumar Khichi is a councilor from Dev Nagar (Ward No. 84). A total of 265 votes were cast for the mayor election, out of which 133 votes went to the AAP candidate and 130 votes went to the BJP.

BJP lost by three votes

Mahesh Khichi of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) was on Thursday elected as the next mayor of Delhi. The victory will boost the morale of the ruling party ahead of the assembly elections in the national capital early next year. Khichi, a Dalit candidate fielded by the Ravindra Kejriwal-led party, defeated Kishan Lal of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) by a narrow margin of just three votes.

Khichi got 133 votes, while Lal got 130 votes. Two votes were declared invalid. Eight Congress councilors did not participate in the voting process. The counting of votes cast for the deputy mayor's election is underway. The Congress boycotted the voting process in the elections postponed from April due to a prolonged war of words between the AAP and the BJP. The Congress had demanded a full term for the mayor instead of the currently proposed short term.
