Maharashtra Legislative Council : Ram Shinde of Bharatiya Janata Party ( BJP ) was elected unopposed as the Chairman of Maharashtra Legislative Council on Thursday. The post of Council Chairman was vacant from July 7, 2022 after the term of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Ramraje Naik-Nimbalkar ended. Now the presiding officers in both the houses of the legislature are from BJP.

Ram Shinde has been a cabinet minister in the Maharashtra government
Last week, BJP MLA Rahul Narvekar was elected Speaker of the 15th Maharashtra Legislative Assembly in the same manner during the ongoing winter session here. Shinde became a member of the Maharashtra Legislative Council on July 8, 2022. Earlier, he was a minister in the then Devendra Fadnavis government from 2014 to 2019. He lost the Karjat Jamkhed assembly seat to NCP (SP) leader Rohit Pawar by a narrow margin in the November 20 state assembly elections. Rohit Pawar got 127676 votes, while Ram Shinde got 126433 votes. Ram Shinde held the responsibility as Minister of State for Home Ministry, Public Health, Agriculture and Tourism in the Fadnavis government. He has also been the Guardian Minister of Ahmednagar district. When the cabinet was expanded in July 2016, Ram Shinde was given the status of Cabinet Minister and was assigned the Ministry of Water Resources.
